Call for Participation

Welcome to the Bengaluru Mobility Challenge 2024 – an exciting hackathon aimed at bringing a change in traffic management and mobility planning in Bengaluru, one of India’s most congested cities, by using AI and geospatial technologies.

This event is co-sponsored by the Bengaluru Traffic Police, the Centre of Data for Public Good, Indian Institute of Science, and is hosted by IEEE DataPort. Join us in developing innovative solutions to improve urban mobility.

Challenge Overview

The hackathon consists of two phases, each designed to tackle specific aspects of mobility management and planning:

Phase 1:

Predictive Traffic Analytics

Start: June 30, 2024
Submission Deadline: August 19, 2024
Evaluation and Prizes Announcement: August 26, 2024
Task: Predict vehicle counts and turning patterns using camera feeds from 23 Safe City cameras around IISc.

Phase 2:

Vehicle Re-identification and Origin-Destination Flow Estimation

Start: August 19, 2024
Submission Deadline: September 9, 2024
Evaluation and Prizes Announcement: September 20, 2024 during the Symposium of Data for Public Good at IISc.
Task: Re-identify vehicles across different network locations and estimate origin-destination flows.

Eligibility

  • Open to residents of India.
  • Teams can have up to five members.
  • A given person can be a member of only one team.
  • At least one team member must be physically present at the final demo venue.

Rules of Participation

  • Register and sign up on IEEE DataPort.
  • Only one account per team.
  • Code and data sharing outside of the team is not permitted.
  • One submission per team; the last submission will be considered if multiple are made.

Data Access and Use

  • Data is for competition use only and must remain private.
  • Any personal identifiable information in the data must not be revealed.
  • Open Source code can be used, provided such use is permitted by the owners of the open source code.

Submission Guidelines

Submissions should include:
  • Code and notebooks: Modular, well-commented, and reproducible.
  • Models: Relevant models in supported formats, with explanations.
  • README.md: Instructions, system requirements, and open source references.
  • Team report (team_name_report.pdf): Team details, methodology, results, conclusions, and references.

Evaluation Criteria

  • Accuracy of predictions or estimates.
  • Novelty of approach.
  • Hardware and computational requirements.
  • Final presentation and demo.
Judges from academia, industry, and the Bengaluru Traffic Police will score submissions on these criteria.

Phase 1:

First Prize: Rs. 2.5 lakhs
Second Prize: Rs. 1.5 lakhs
Special Recognition: Rs. 25,000 to remaining finalists
