A secure, interoperable, and consent-based agricultural data exchange platform for Maharashtra’s agriculture ecosystem.

Overview

MahaAgX is a strategic initiative by the Department of Agriculture, Govt. of Maharashtra, designed to catalyze secure data exchange and agricultural innovation. By providing a robust ecosystem of rich agricultural data banks, open-source AI models, and a high-performance Innovation Sandbox featuring GPU and CPU-based compute and integrated development tools, MahaAgX empowers the creation of scalable AI Use Cases. Our mission is to transform raw data into real-world solutions that address the critical challenges of our farmers. This platform stands as a testament to Maharashtra’s commitment to digital leadership, climate-resilient farming, and technology-driven agricultural governance.

Objectives

Key Features

Use Cases

Weather-variability and early pest-outbreak forecasting for micro-regions, feeding directly into farmer advisories.

Crop-cycle optimisation and precision-irrigation recommendations based on integrated land, soil, and crop data.

AI-powered plant pest & disease detection, linked with the state’s computer-vision diagnostic tools.

Voice- and language-based agri-advisory (e.g., the Bhili tribal-language LLM and MahaVISTAAR voice services) drawing on data served through MahaAgX.

Targeted subsidy allocation and scheme design using aggregated, de-identified farm data for policymakers.

Data / Datasets Available

Land records, crop and cropping-pattern data, market price feeds, weather and satellite data, and datasets from agricultural universities, connected with national systems such as AgriStack. Access is role-based and consent-driven; most raw farmer-level data is not publicly downloadable, but aggregated/derived datasets and APIs are made available to onboarded researchers, startups, and government users.

Our Role

CDPG designed and developed the platform end-to-end, the data exchange layer, onboarding of government and non-government datasets, and the applications/sandbox layer, in partnership with the state and the World Bank.

Impact

Live and launched at AI4Agri 2026; part of a wider MahaAgri-AI ecosystem reaching several million farmers.
