India’s trusted, standards-based data exchange for discovery, interoperability and secure access to valuable geospatial data.
Overview
Developed and deployed by CDPG and supported by the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India, Integrated Geospatial Data-sharing Interface (GDI) is a standards-based infrastructure for geospatial data discovery and exchange. It supports the objectives of the National Geospatial Policy 2022.
Initiative funded by DST

Survey of India, the nodal agency for this initiative
Ecosystem Contributors
IIT Tirupati Navavishkar I-Hub Foundation (IITTNiF)
Provide a unified, standardised access point for India's geospatial data.
Promote interoperability across geospatial systems through open standards, APIs and consistent metadata
Support the goals of the National Geospatial Policy 2022
Enable innovation in geospatial applications and services across sectors.
Key Features
Unified Interface — Integrates spatial data, tools and services through OGC APIs and open standards.
Standardised Data Access — Supports diverse formats and APIs, with GeoPackage and GeoTIFF options for efficient data download.
Interoperability by Design — Uses consistent standards, metadata and protocols for seamless discovery and exchange.
Federated Data Ecosystem — Connects government, academia and industry while enabling providers to retain control over their data.
Growing contributor ecosystem, including national agencies such as Survey of India, NRSC and NIC, along with academic institutions and industry partners.
Use Cases
Logistics: Delhivery incorporated GDI’s village polygon data for Varanasi to improve last-mile delivery mapping.
Renewable energy: SIRPI Analytics combined National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF) wind datasets with Survey of India boundaries via GDI to estimate wind-energy potential.
Supports Operation Dronagiri pilots across agriculture, livelihoods, and logistics/transport sectors.
Datasets Available
GDI is a live national geospatial data platform with 1,500+ geospatial datasets and growing, contributed by government agencies, research and academic institutions, and industry partners.
Our Role
CDPG developed the GDI platform with support from DST, with the Survey of India serving as the nodal agency for the initiative, building the standards, interoperability layer and access framework that connect India’s geospatial data ecosystem.
Impact
Live national platform with 1,500+ datasets and a growing base of government, academic, and industry users , serves as a technology partner for Operation Dronagiri, supporting pilots across sectors.
